Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has appointed Kumar Shanker as its new Managing Director, effective June 5, 2026, following his nomination by promoter company GAIL (India) Limited.

A Chemical Engineering graduate from BITS Pilani, Kumar Shanker brings more than 31 years of extensive experience across the natural gas value chain, including gas processing operations, petrochemical project management, corporate strategy, marketing, regulatory affairs, and city gas distribution. Prior to this appointment, he served as Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL).

Widely recognized for his expertise in regulatory and policy matters, Shanker has contributed significantly to key industry reforms, including the implementation of the Unified Tariff framework for India’s National Gas Grid and the development of GAIL’s online Pipeline Open Access Portal. His experience also includes active engagement with the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, NITI Aayog, and PNGRB on sectoral policy initiatives.
