In a landmark achievement, Madhya Pradesh has set a new benchmark in India’s renewable energy journey by achieving record-low tariffs for solar-plus-storage projects in Morena. For the first time in the country, renewable energy with storage will be available at below ₹3 per unit, marking a major step toward affordable and reliable clean power.
The state has awarded 600 MW capacity with 880 MWh dual cycle storage units after a competitive bidding process. Ceigall India Ltd secured the bid at ₹2.70 per unit, while ACME Solar Holdings quoted ₹2.764 per unit, making this the lowest tariff for dispatchable renewable energy in India to date.
Each unit will deliver 220 MW of power, supplying solar energy during the day and battery-stored electricity during evening peak hours. In the mornings, before panels recharge, power will be drawn from batteries charged with cost-effective night-time grid electricity.
With an annual supply availability of 95%, this is India’s first solar-plus-storage project to ensure round-the-clock renewable power at such competitive pricing. The initiative positions Madhya Pradesh as a leader in India’s clean energy transition, setting the foundation for future renewable projects that match conventional power in both certainty and commercial viability.
